This project was created in consultation with Oxfam Australia who wanted to build greater awareness around their Design For Change platform.
2nd Life is all about re-using first world ‘junk’ to create a practical solution to third world problems. It was developed as a new initiative to sit alongside the Design for Change platform and would be built into school curriculum’s in order to direct creatives thinkers towards the Design for Change online platform. 2nd Life encourages students and design professionals to work together to build practical art from recycled materials and products. The sculptures would be placed around public spaces to encourage a different line of thinking throughout the public audience.
The project involved a redesign of the current Design for Change website which focused on simplifying and streamlining the existing site to appeal more to the young 18-25 year old target market. 2nd Life appears on the website in the inspiration tab to act as a teaser for other much larger Design for Change briefs.
To develop greater awareness around this initiative, posters, public way finding devices, invitations and vehicle wraps were created. To accompany the website in the digital realm, banner ads were also created. Simple photographic visuals of first world junk paired with the one word tagline of ‘Reimagine’ directly relates to the overall purpose of 2nd Life and delivers the brand message in a succinct and powerful way.
A Communication Plan was developed to set out the process involved in the set-up of 2nd Life, including research and case studies that influenced any decision making, right through to the final outcomes.
